Silentstar looked over at Ironclaw as they walked out of camp, "We already have a hunting patrol heading to the Woodclan border So, where do you think we should head?" He glanced over at Riverfang, his eyes challenging the tom to answer the question too.

Riverfang felt his pelt start to itch from the sudden attention Silentstar gave him, the way his leader was looking at him felt like he was trying to test him. Was Silentstar thinking about appointing him as the new deputy? Riverfang shoved the thought to the back of his mind and tried to answer the question with his first thought. "If warriors are already heading towards the WoodClan boarder then I would suggest we should head towards the boarder with StormClan, then follow the boarder across to HillClan's" He said. "Since you said quick boarder patrol I'd think we should only check half the boarder with each the clans, we could start in the middle of the StormClan boarder and stop near the center of HillClan's boarder, that way we'd cover the same ground as if we start at the beginning of StormClan's boarder and ended at the place it turns into HillClan's." Riverfang hoped he made sense to his clanmates, because to him it just sounded like a bunch of jumbled up thoughts placed together in odd phrases.

Heatedstep Watched as Ironclaw tagged along with Riverfang and Silentstar out of the camp. He looked at the two cats he was going on the hunting patrol with. "Well I guess we should be heading out now." He said awkwardly.
He turned and left out of the camp. He took a long deep breath and smiled. What a wonderful day. He dug his claws in the soft soil and waited for Frozendream and Thunderfall to catch up to him.

Frozendream took two bites of her featherless bird to silence the dull hunger feeling she had, she noticed everyone was leaving and guessed that they didn't want to waste any time catching new prey. She pushed what was left of her bird back into the fresh kill pile and walked towards the camp exit cleaning the fur around her mouth with her tongue as she walked. She glanced at Heatedstep and sat down next to him without saying a word.

Silentstar listened intently to Riverfang and gave a breif nod of his head but didn't say wether or not the tom was correct.
He turned his gaze to Ironclaw to await his answer.

Riverfang dipped his head and walked forwards taking the lead of the patrol as they walked through the fores. His paws tingled and his ears felt hot, he has never been the lead of any patrol, let alone one that Silentstar was in. Riverfang glanced backwards to make sure that the warriors were following him and then continued on his path to the StormClan boarder.
Once they got there he stopped short of the boarder and paused to sniff the air, the StormClan boarder marks weren't very strong. Riverfang guessed the last StormClan boarder patrol must have been at least noon yesterday. He scanned the forest but there didn't seem to be any signs of prey or traces of scent crossing the boarder here. “There doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary.” Riverfang mumbled to himself turning towards the other members of the patrol wondering what they thought.

Ironclaw lifted his head from under a small snow drift as he sniffed around and tasted the air for the scent of StormClan. He slushed around in the moist soil, he picked up a faint scent among the scents of flower buds, water, and vole that covered his pelt; one of the grasslands and moors. But this one had a tang of dog scent too.
"Fox," Ironclaw hissed to Silentstar and Riverfang, "I think one from HillClan's territory has strayed over out borders. Should we follow it?"

Silentstar followed Riverfang and checked the border with them, stopping when Ironclaw mentioned the fox. He walked over and sniffed the area and nodded, "Yea, I smell it." He looked back over at Riverfang, "Well?"

Riverfang shuffled his paws. "Er, we planned our patrol to head towards the HillClan boarder so if we find a place that the scent distinctly crosses into our territory we should follow it to make sure it leaves," Riverfang sniffed the air but couldn't tell how long ago the fox had been here, it must have been a while ago since he hadn't smelled it the first time, or maybe he just didn't notice it? fox wasn't a smell he was oh so familiar with in the first place. "Until then I say we should just resume our patrol as we had planned."

"R-right." Riverfang mumbled and continued on with the patrol down the StormClan boarder. He tried to push his nerves away by thinking of other things besides the fact that the leader of his clan felt like he was watching Riverfang's every move, and focused on finding a fox scent and refreshing the boarder marks as they went along.
Eventually the patrol reached the line where HillClan and StormClan's territories meet, and there was an unmistakeable fox scent that lingered at the intersection. Riverfang leaned in close to the ground and followed the scent, but as far as he could tell it was only in that area. it didn't make sense to him though because the scent didn't have a trail to it or from it, its almost as if I fox fell from the sky and then took flight again only touching the ground here.
"I fount this fox sent." Riverfang reported to Silentstar. Honestly Riverfang wasn't quite sure what to do now since he couldn't figure out where the scent came from, so he started inspecting the bushes farther away from the fox-patch inside StreamClan's territory.
